A grant provided by the Opturo Foundation will go directly to the Community Development team at the Karanda Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe. Many rural schools in the Karanda Hospital catchment area face challenges in covering their operating expenses, leading to children being sent home due to their families’ inability to pay school fees. This project aims to establish a sustainable goat rearing program at a rural school that can generate additional revenue to support the school’s operations and provide nutritional benefits for the students. Expected outcomes of the project include establishment of a thriving goat herd that can provide a reliable source of revenue for the school, reducing the number of children sent home due to unpaid fees, and improved educational resources and infrastructure through the purchase of textbooks and other school development initiatives.
